Introduction to different numbers
Super Premium 3 Steps Wet and Dry Polishing Pads for Marble, Granite, Quartz, and Engineered Stone
Rough grinding:
50# -100# grinding pads has obvious grinding marks, which is used to trim the flatness of grinding materials and grind the modeling surface in place.
Semi fine polishing:
200# - 300# remove the rough grinding marks, but new fine lines will be formed and the machined surface will be polished more smoothly.
Fine polishing:
400# - 1000# fine polishing pads pattern, particle and color have been clearly displayed, with fine and smooth surface and weak gloss.
Finish polishing:
The surface of 1500# - 5000# processed products becomes smoother and smoother, shiner and shiner.
How can stone polishing work be done well?
Super Premium 3 Steps Wet and Dry Polishing Pads for Marble, Granite, Quartz, and Engineered Stone
(1) Establish the concept of progressive grinding. When grinding stone materials, it is necessary to follow a step-by-step grinding process. After grinding with 50# grit, use 150# grit, and so on. This is particularly important for the deep grinding of colored stone materials. If you skip grit levels—for example, moving from 50# directly to 300# grinding pads—it will certainly result in issues, such as scratches from a coarser grit that cannot be fully removed.
The scratches left by a higher grit removing those from the previous grit are predetermined during the production design of the grinding pads. Some people may argue that when processing certain stone materials, they skipped grit levels without encountering leftover scratches. However, I tell you this is just an exception. The back of the material you worked on may be light-colored stone, or the stone itself may have a relatively soft texture. In such cases, scratches are more easily removed, and even if the color is slightly uneven, the scratches are not obvious. However, if you take a magnifying glass to observe, you will definitely see scratches.
(2) Rough grinding must be thorough. Rough grinding, such as with 30# or 50# grit, must be done well and thoroughly. What does this concept mean? Some people, when performing edge cutting or surface leveling, tend to grind along the seams more often. However, certain parts of the stone surface may still appear shiny, which means the grinding was not thorough.
Each grinding pad has its own ability to remove scratches. If the 50# pad does not achieve thorough grinding, it will increase the difficulty of the 150# pad in removing the scratches left by the 50# pad.
(3) Grinding requires a quantitative approach. Many workers do not have a quantitative concept when grinding. For instance, they stop at 50# grinding and rely on 150# grinding to remove the scratches left by 50#. Without a quantitative approach, how do they proceed? They rely on experience or make random guesses. However, different stones and different on-site conditions require different grinding amounts. The experience you relied on in previous projects may not work for this one, so we need to conduct on-site tests to confirm.
Having a quantitative concept not only allows us to solve problems but also helps us achieve twice the results with half the effort!
When grinding, we need to proceed step by step, not only to progressively remove scratches but also because each grinding pad has its own function. For example, the 150# pad is responsible for removing scratches from edge cutting or rough grinding, the 300# pad has the ability to restore the color, but this ability depends on using a fresh pad. The 500# pad has the ability to refine and tidy up the results of rough and finer grinding, preparing the surface for precision polishing.
The grinding process is a critical step in the overall stone care process, while crystallization polishing is simply the finishing touch.
